Our 2-Year-Old Preschool Curriculum and Play-Focused Early Learning Environment
Your child’s journey of exploration and joy begins here! At Woodcrest Preschool, we tailor our program for 2-year-old learners with the perfect blend of fun and education. Through engaging play and preschool activities for 2-year-olds, we aim to enhance your child’s natural curiosity and foundations for lifelong learning in a loving and structured setting.
Our Groundbreaking
2-year-old Preschool Curriculum
In preschool it’s important to focus on developing your child’s early literacy skills and critical thinking and encourage them to use their creativity through fun and simple activities.
At Woodcrest Preschool, our preschool for 2-year-olds introduces children to the exciting world of letters and their sounds through interactive and joyful methods. Using songs, books, pictures, and more, we help children begin recognizing letters and connecting them to the sounds they make, laying a strong foundation for future reading success.
Recognizing their own name is a big milestone for 2-year-olds, and we make it fun! Through daily activities like our “Who Is Here Today” song, attendance routines, and personalized pictures paired with each child’s name, we encourage name recognition and help children feel a sense of belonging in our classroom community.
Pre-writing skills are the building blocks for writing, and we guide 2-year-olds in developing these essentials. By practicing fundamental strokes like lines, circles, and shapes (| , —, O, +, /, etc.) through playful preschool activities for 2-year-olds, we strengthen their ability to hold and use a pencil, setting the stage for drawing, writing, and copying with confidence as they grow.
Our 2-year-old preschool curriculum introduces key pre-math concepts to prepare your child for elementary school success. Through hands-on exploration, 2-year-olds learn to count, recognize numerals, identify shapes and colors, sort objects, and understand ideas like size and patterns—building a strong early math foundation with activities that spark curiosity and joy.
Play is at the heart of learning for 2-year-olds, and we encourage it daily! Through guided play and sharing opportunities, children develop social skills, cooperation, and communication as they engage with peers, take turns, and participate in group activities designed to nurture their growing independence.
Imagination thrives in our dramatic play areas! Each classroom features a dress-up corner and kitchen setup, with props and items swapped out to match themes, holidays, and special events, offering children a chance to role-play, explore cultures, and express themselves creatively in a dynamic environment.
Understanding feelings is a vital part of growing up, and we’re here to help. Our curriculum supports 2-year-olds in recognizing and managing their emotions, building empathy, and forming positive relationships with peers and teachers in a nurturing space that fosters emotional growth.
Sensory play is a cornerstone of our 2-year-old preschool program, engaging children in hands-on experiences that stimulate their senses. From squishing playdough to exploring textures, these activities not only spark curiosity but also enhance fine motor skills and cognitive development in a fun, messy, and meaningful way.
We strengthen little hands and fingers through sensory-rich activities tailored for 2-year-olds. Whether they’re stringing beads, snipping with scissors, painting with wrist action, or rolling playdough, our program builds the coordination and control needed for milestones like holding a crayon with fingers (not a fist) and eating independently.
At Woodcrest Preschool, we help 2-year-olds build their physical confidence through whole-body movement. Activities like walking smoothly around corners, beginning to run, climbing onto furniture, and picking up toys without falling over strengthen their large muscles and eye-hand coordination, preparing them for active play and everyday adventures.
We spark curiosity about the world with foundational knowledge tailored for 2-year-olds, introducing basic concepts that form the bedrock of their early education. Through engaging activities, children explore ideas like seasons, weather, parts of the body, animals, fruits, vegetables, community helpers, and good habits—building a broad base of understanding that connects them to their surroundings.
These concepts, such as basic colors (red, blue, green), sizes (big, little), shapes (round, square), and opposites like happy and sad or rough and smooth, help children follow directions, join classroom routines, and chat with friends. Mastering these essentials—often presented as pairs like hot and cold or first and next—sets the stage for success in reading, writing, and math, directly boosting their school performance as they grow.
Creativity blossoms with our arts and crafts experiences! Using sensory-rich projects like playdough creations and simple designs, 2-year-olds develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving abilities while expressing their imagination in a fun, hands-on way that boosts confidence and independence.
We support 2-year-olds and their families through the diapering and potty-training journey with care and patience. Our experienced staff provides a consistent, encouraging environment to help children transition at their own pace, fostering independence and confidence during this important developmental stage.
Each month, we focus on a unique character trait to guide 2-year-olds in becoming kind, thoughtful individuals. Through stories, activities, and discussions, we introduce values like sharing, respect, and perseverance, helping children develop a strong moral foundation in a supportive setting.
Our Enhanced Programs
At Woodcrest Preschool, our preschool for 2-year-olds is thoughtfully tailored to meet the unique needs of this age group, ensuring every activity is both enriching and developmentally appropriate. While each age group enjoys the same exciting programs, we customize them based on age, skill set, and abilities, providing an engaging and supportive experience that grows with your child.
Live Animal Exploration
Every other week, children dive into live animal exploration sessions with Critter Squad, introducing them to a fascinating variety of creatures. These hands-on preschool activities for 2-year-olds spark curiosity as 2-year-olds observe animal characteristics and behaviors, fostering a deep connection to nature through safe, guided interactions.

Yoga & Gymnastics
Our 2-year-olds enjoy alternating seasons of yoga and gymnastics, designed to build physical skills in a fun way. Yoga introduces simple poses to enhance balance, coordination, and mindfulness, while gymnastics brings energetic movements to boost flexibility and strength, all in a calm and engaging environment.

The gardening program invites 2-year-olds to plant, nurture, and watch plants grow, fostering responsibility and patience. Through hands-on teamwork, children develop an appreciation for nature and healthy eating habits as they explore the wonders of the outdoors.

Fine Arts
Through painting, drawing, and crafting, our fine arts program highlights a new artist each month to inspire 2-year-olds’ creativity. These activities introduce diverse techniques and cultural art forms, enhancing motor skills while encouraging imagination and self-expression.
Outdoor Classroom
The outdoor classroom brings learning to life for 2-year-olds, blending nature with hands-on play to build motor skills and ecological awareness. Exploring their surroundings through guided activities, children develop a sense of wonder and connection to the world around them.

Cooking Healthy Foods
In our cooking program, 2-year-olds take part in safe, simple kitchen tasks like mixing and measuring. These sessions introduce basic nutrition, healthy eating habits, and global cuisines, sparking curiosity and encouraging lifelong healthy choices.
Liberal Arts
Our liberal arts program features stories and a new author each month to captivate 2-year-olds and boost language development. This structured approach builds vocabulary, comprehension, and a love of reading through engaging storytelling.

Language & Culture
This program introduces 2-year-olds to basic language skills and cultural traditions, fostering respect for global diversity. Through playful exploration, children gain a broader understanding of the world in an inclusive, supportive setting.
STEAM
In our two-year-old classrooms, STEAM activities introduce children to science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through hands-on, play-based learning. These group projects promote problem-solving skills, creativity, and teamwork as children explore and manipulate materials with guidance from teachers.
Each classroom reads a book featuring a problem for students to solve. For example, after reading The Three Bears, children work together to build a new chair strong enough to hold a teddy bear, or after reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff, they create a bridge to safely cross over a troll. STEAM projects also tie into the weekly theme, allowing children to build and create based on what they are learning, reinforcing concepts through active problem-solving.

Rhythm and Music
Our rhythm and music program brings the joy of sound to 2-year-olds with songs, simple instruments, and movement. These activities enhance listening skills, coordination, and self-expression while fostering a sense of rhythm and community through musical play.
Dance
Dance gets 2-year-olds moving with simple steps and creative expression tailored to their abilities. This program builds coordination, confidence, and social skills as children explore movement in a lively, supportive atmosphere.

Listening Center
The listening center offers 2-year-olds a cozy space to enjoy stories, songs, and sounds through age-appropriate audio experiences. This program sharpens auditory skills, boosts language development, and encourages a love for listening and learning.
Writing Center
In our two-year-old classrooms, the writing center introduces children to early writing skills through engaging activities. Teachers provide hands-on assistance to ensure safety, proper use of materials, and support as needed. Children explore mark-making, tracing, and early letter recognition using age-appropriate worksheets and writing tools. While they are encouraged to experiment with writing, teachers guide them in developing fine motor skills and familiarity with letters, setting the foundation for future writing development.

Baby Doll Circle Time
We offer a special Conscious Discipline program for our 2-year-olds called “Baby Doll Circle Time,” developed by Dr. Bailey. This innovative program recognizes that optimal child development relies heavily on healthy, nurturing relationships with adults. Since it can be challenging to provide one-on-one time in childcare settings, Baby Doll Circle Time is designed to address this need effectively. During this program, each child uses a baby doll to engage in structured circle time activities that focus on building attachment, emotional understanding, and social skills. This approach not only strengthens the bond between children and caregivers but also enhances social play, all without placing additional demands on our staff. It’s a thoughtful solution that helps ensure every child receives the attention and connection they need to thrive.
