3-year-old Preschool Program
At Woodcrest Preschool, we believe that the early years of a child’s life are the most crucial for laying the foundation for lifelong learning. Our 3-year-old preschool program is designed to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where young children can thrive. We emphasize the importance of social-emotional growth, helping children develop skills like empathy, communication, and self-regulation as they interact with peers and adults.
Our Innovative Approach to Preschool Education for 3-year-olds
Our innovative approach to 3-year-old education is designed to foster a love of learning from the earliest stages. With a commitment to excellence, we maintain a low teacher-to-child ratio of 1:8 for our 3-year-olds, ensuring each child receives personalized attention and care. As an NAEYC-accredited institution, we uphold the highest standards in early childhood education, offering an enriching curriculum that goes beyond traditional learning. Our enhanced programs include language development, arts integration, and outdoor exploration, all tailored to inspire curiosity and growth in our young learners.
Our groundbreaking
Curriculum for 3-year-olds
In preschool it’s important to focus on developing your child’s early literacy skills and critical thinking and encourage them to use their creativity through fun and simple activities.
Each week, we focus on one letter and one number, using creative art projects and lively songs to make learning fun and memorable. Children participate in hands-on activities like gluing objects onto large cut-outs of letters and numbers or assembling pre-cut shapes into themed patterns, such as crafting an ice cream cone for the letter “I.” These interactive projects not only help children recognize and understand letters and numbers but also introduce foundational phonics and phonemic awareness. Through activities like identifying letter sounds, clapping out syllables, and tracing letters, children build early literacy skills while enhancing their fine motor abilities for writing and everyday tasks. By combining playful exploration with purposeful learning, we aim to create a strong foundation for reading, writing, and numerical comprehension.
Encouraging our students to use the restroom throughout the day supports and reinforces healthy bathroom habits for our 3-year-olds. Teachers will guide students to the restroom every 1 to 1.5 hours, helping them understand that using the restroom is a regular part of their daily routine. This consistent schedule not only promotes independence and self-care but also helps young children become comfortable and confident in managing their bathroom needs. By incorporating these routine breaks into their day, we foster a positive and proactive approach to personal hygiene.
Learning respectful play and share habits nurture a child’s social skills and ability to play cooperatively. Teachers set up small, engaging play areas around the classroom, known as centers, where children are encouraged to interact and share toys with their peers. This approach helps young learners develop essential social skills and learn the value of teamwork. When a sharing conflict in the classroom arises, our teachers take the time to understand the situation, discuss the importance of taking turns and sharing with the children, and support them as they navigate the interaction and express their feelings. During play, teachers not only encourage teamwork but also guide children in recognizing and expressing emotions like frustration or joy, helping them navigate social interactions with empathy and confidence.
Ensuring our students can recognize their own name is another key focus in our 3-year-old program. Each child will have a personalized name card featuring their picture alongside their name, which will be prominently displayed on their cubby. This visual reinforcement helps children begin to recognize and associate their name with their personal belongings. As part of our regular, every-day curriculum, students practice writing their name in print on both worksheets and art projects. By consistently seeing their name in different contexts, children start to develop early literacy skills and a sense of identity within the classroom environment.
Understanding and expressing feelings is an integral part of our 3-year-old curriculum. During most morning circle times, we engage in discussions about how each child is feeling that day, helping them articulate and recognize their emotions. To further support emotional development, we often sing songs about expressing feelings, which makes the learning process both interactive and enjoyable. This approach fosters emotional awareness and helps children develop the vocabulary and confidence to communicate their feelings effectively.
Social and emotional growth is foundational to our curriculum, supported by Dr. Becky Bailey’s award winning “Conscious Discipline” program, used in over 100,000 schools nationwide. This compassionate, research-backed approach helps children build empathy, self-regulation, and intrinsic motivation. Through structured activities like turn-taking games, storytelling, and role-play, children develop collaboration, listening, and social skills, while teachers model kindness and understanding.
Our program emphasizes the development of both fine and gross motor skills through a variety of engaging, age-appropriate activities. Children refine their fine motor skills by participating in tasks such as cutting with safety scissors, threading beads, and drawing or writing with crayons and markers. For gross motor development, we incorporate activities like jumping, running, and balancing during outdoor play and movement-based games. By providing opportunities for physical activity and creative exploration, we ensure that children strengthen their coordination, agility, and overall physical confidence in a fun and supportive environment.
Our Enhanced Programs
Live Animal Exploration
Our exciting bi-weekly live animal exploration sessions, designed to deepen your child’s understanding of the natural world. Through hands-on interactions with a variety of animals, children learn key concepts such as omnivores, nocturnal habits, cold-blooded versus warm-blooded traits, what defines a reptile, and why mammals have fur. These sessions help children see themselves as part of a larger ecosystem and foster a sense of respect and appreciation for all living creatures. By connecting with the natural world in this meaningful way, children develop a lifelong curiosity and respect for animals and their habitats.
Yoga
Our yoga program offers an excellent opportunity for young learners to explore movement in a fun and supportive environment. Through engaging yoga sessions, children learn valuable strategies to build resilience and adapt to the busy world around them. Each classroom benefits from the expertise of our dedicated yoga teacher, who visits regularly to introduce new poses and techniques. Additionally, yoga strengthens core muscles, balance, and flexibility, promoting gross motor development alongside mindfulness. This hands-on approach not only promotes physical fitness but also encourages mindfulness and self-regulation, helping children develop essential skills for navigating their daily experiences with confidence and calm.
Gardening
Our gardening program provides a hands-on, interactive experience where children engage directly with their environment. By planting, maintaining, and harvesting their own fruits and vegetables, children develop a deeper appreciation for nature and the food they eat. This enriching program not only teaches essential skills like responsibility and patience but also culminates in the joy of feasting on their homegrown produce. Through gardening, children connect with the natural world, learn about the growth process, and experience the satisfaction of nurturing plants from seed to table. Children work together to care for plants, developing teamwork skills and a sense of shared accomplishment.
STEAM
Our STEAM program introduces young learners to the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics through hands-on, age-appropriate activities. By engaging in simple experiments, building projects, and creative problem-solving tasks, children develop foundational skills in these key areas while fostering curiosity and critical thinking. Our STEAM activities are designed to be both fun and educational, encouraging exploration and discovery in a playful and supportive environment. Through this program, we aim to spark an early interest in STEAM concepts and inspire a love for learning that will benefit children throughout their educational journey.
Fine Arts
Our fine arts enrichment program offers a vibrant introduction to the world of art. Children explore the works of great artists while creating their own masterpieces using a variety of mediums. By viewing actual works of art, they learn to recognize and appreciate art as a significant aspect of life that reflects diverse places and cultures. Through guided discussions and hands-on activities, children delve into the exploration of line, shape, color, and texture, gaining a deeper understanding of artistic expression and enhancing their appreciation for the beauty and diversity of art.
Outdoor Classroom
Our outdoor classroom enrichment program offers children an immersive experience in nature, providing a dynamic space to engage with the environment daily. In this program, children participate in outdoor games, study natural life cycles, and explore the beauty of the natural world firsthand. They collect rocks, observe weather patterns, and take note of insects, plants, and other fascinating details of nature. Exploring the outdoor classroom through climbing, digging, and other physical activities like running, jumping, and balancing strengthens gross motor skills. This hands-on approach not only enriches their understanding of the world around them but also encourages a love for the outdoors and a deeper connection with the environment.
Cooking Healthy Foods
Our cooking healthy foods program offers children a weekly opportunity to engage in fun, developmentally appropriate cooking experiences. Through these activities, they learn about nutrition and the importance of a balanced diet while exploring recipes, ingredients, and cooking vocabulary. Skills like measuring, stirring, and cutting (with child-safe tools) developed through cooking improve fine motor coordination and dexterity. This hands-on approach not only introduces children to the fundamentals of healthy eating but also provides a window into different places and cultures through the diverse foods they prepare. By participating in cooking, children gain valuable skills and knowledge about making nutritious choices while expanding their culinary horizons.
Language & Culture
Our language and culture program is designed to provide a rich and engaging introduction to the diverse world around us. Each lesson covers foundational topics such as greetings, stories, numbers, colors, animals, and family, while also incorporating dance, language, and cultural activities to enrich the learning experience. Throughout the year, preschoolers explore different countries and communities, celebrating world cultures, customs, and holidays through age-appropriate social studies. In May, we dedicate the entire month to a deep dive into each continent, exploring various countries and nationalities through books, art, recipes, family trees, family pictures, and music. This immersive approach aims to instill a profound knowledge and appreciation of global diversity, aligning with our values of educational excellence and respect for all cultures.
Liberal Arts
Our liberal arts program introduces a new author each month, enriching children’s literature experiences and supporting their early language development. By reading diverse works, we enhance vocabulary, improve comprehension skills, and strengthen cognitive abilities, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of reading. This program not only deepens children’s understanding of language but also helps them grasp English more effectively when books are read in this language. Each year, the selection of authors changes, providing children with exposure to a broader vocabulary, various places, cultures, and a richer overall knowledge base.
Get Involved in Your Child’s Learning!
Each month, students are given a family project based on a fun theme. This project provides a wonderful opportunity for your child to create something at home and bring it to school to share with their classmates. Since it’s a FAMILY PROJECT, we encourage you to involve someone from your family in the process. This can include parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or even siblings. We see this as a chance for you to spend quality time together. The projects are designed to be simple and quick to complete, making it easy for everyone to participate and enjoy the experience.

“I was hesitant to enroll our 18 month old at first because it was her first experience away from Grandma babysitting. Now I don’t doubt our decision at all! The teachers made the transition fun and exciting despite my worries and fears. Seeing our daughter interact with her peers at school and learning, has been a wonderful experience. She’s so smart and advanced! My favorite perk is how Woodcrest brings in animals for the kids to meet! I anxiously await the fabulous photos and videos that get instantly posted to Facebook. I highly recommend Woodcrest!”
Alma C.
“We have enjoyed watching our son flourish into a young boy. When he started preschool his verbiage and communication skills were at a minimum. Within one year, he was speaking in full sentences, knew his entire alphabet, shapes, colors and numbers. Woodcrest Preschool exceeded our expectations by teaching our son about art, gardening, animals, science, music, cooking and even YOGA!”
John & Chrin B.
“We are so happy to be part of the Woodcrest family! Our daughter is absolutely thriving and enjoying the fun-filled curriculum, and greatly looks forward to going to school each and every day. We, as parents, feel very well taken care of by the teachers and administrative staff and are especially appreciative of the open and frequent communication. We feel so fortunate to have our child attend Woodcrest Preschool, and look forward to her continuing to blossom and grow there!”
