Our Philosophy Towards Early Childhood Education
At Woodcrest Preschool, we embrace the notion that children’s lives are filled with continuous change, from evolving lessons and varying teachers to shifting social dynamics and new challenges. Starting as young as two years old, we empower our students to take responsibility for their own well-being and introduce age-appropriate tasks that encourage independence. Our approach fosters a love for learning and self-confidence as children eagerly embrace their roles as helpers and take pride in mastering practical life skills.
As part of this philosophy, we nurture the following characteristics in our students:
Compassion
At Woodcrest Preschool, we prioritize compassion and empathy, nurturing these qualities alongside strong communication and problem-solving skills. Through interactive activities and real-life experiences, we encourage children to understand and respect others’ perspectives and emotions. Our curriculum fosters effective communication and collaborative problem-solving, equipping students with vital life skills that promote positive relationships and resilience. We aim to cultivate not only academic excellence but also compassionate, empathetic, and socially skilled individuals who contribute positively to their communities.
Adaptability
Adaptability is a cornerstone of Woodcrest Preschool’s philosophy. We understand that in today’s rapidly changing world, the ability to adapt and thrive in new situations is a crucial life skill. Our approach encourages children to embrace change with confidence and curiosity, fostering their resilience and problem-solving abilities. Through a dynamic curriculum and supportive environment, we empower students to navigate diverse challenges and opportunities, preparing them not just for academic success but for a future where adaptability is key to personal and professional growth.
Responsibility
Our children learn – and want – to be responsible through community and classroom learning routines. We teach children the value of responsibility through active participation in our classroom and community learning routines. Our approach instills a sense of accountability and ownership in our students, encouraging them to take on tasks and contribute positively to their surroundings. By fostering this essential life skill from an early age, we empower our children to become responsible, self-reliant individuals who are eager to engage in their educational journey and beyond.
Engaged in Learning
At Woodcrest Preschool, we are dedicated to cultivating engaged learners who are well-prepared for both kindergarten and collaborative interactions. Our 21st-century curriculum is thoughtfully designed to captivate and inspire students, fostering a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. By keeping everyone actively engaged in the educational process, we empower our students to not only excel academically but also develop essential social and teamwork skills, ensuring they step confidently into the future.
21st Century Preschool Curriculum
The time to begin preparing children for the challenges and demands of the future is when they are young. Children in their early years are curious and excited learners. It is our responsibility as educators to tap into a child’s curious nature and excitement. Woodcrest Preschool incorporates 21st-century learning in all facets of the curriculum by using coding robots, smart boards in pre-k, makerspace, and STEAM learning. All of these learning approaches help with critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, technology literacy, and social-emotional development. Children need to begin to develop the early foundational skills that will help them reason, think creatively, analyze data, and work collaboratively in the future.

Families come first at Woodcrest Preschool. We work closely with parents/guardians to provide superior communication. Through our Procare Phone App, parents/guardians are provided with daily communication of your child’s preschool experience, pictures of exciting activities, and a means to contact the teacher or director. The Procare App engages parents/guardians through photo emails and texts.
Procare is a Leader in communicating with parents/guardians about what is going on in their child’s classroom. Daily pictures and activity updates are just a few of the features.
Each month, Woodcrest Preschool students learn about famous art masters. Teachers provide information on the artist’s background, read books, and showcase some of the most famous works. Children are then challenged to create their own master art projects using the techniques and materials of the artist. Art helps build motor skills, language development, decision-making, and more!
Woodcrest Preschool chooses an author of the month to help children connect with a story in a deeper way. Students develop and fine-tune reading skills, build critical thinking skills, improve writing techniques, and have fun learning more in-depth about what they are reading.
Our community garden at Woodcrest is the perfect place for our students to see science in action. They love planting seeds, watching them grow, and getting to enjoy the food they grew in the fall!
At Woodcrest Preschool, we understand that the journey of potty training can be both exciting and challenging for both parents and toddlers. That’s why we take a unique approach to support you every step of the way. Our dedicated team of two-year-old teachers not only educate and care for your child, but they also step into the role of your Potty Training Partners. We recognize that consistency is key during this developmental milestone, and our experienced teachers work hand-in-hand with parents to create a seamless potty training experience.
